More Quick 7 Card Stud Tips
A game worth learning, Seven Card Stud can be more difficult than other types of poker to learn. With many more cards of their own, good players can immediately determine how likely they are to make a better hand and win the game. By knowing more than your opponents, you can easily turn a profit quickly.
A few hints on ways to improve in this game are:
Push High-Pair’s early.
This is a strategy you should use often. If you are dealt a pair in your initial three cards, and the pair is one you would consider high, bet as much as possible. Unless someone else is raising before you, it is best to play this hand very strongly and win the pot before more cards are dealt and other players improve.
Consider Slow Playing Trips.
Three of a kind is a very good hand in Seven Card, the most frequent winning hand is usually two pair, so don’t try to push too hard initially. Slow playing a monster hand like this will likely net you the most chips at the end of the hand.
Watch Other Players’ Hands Carefully.
Being able to see other people’s cards in this game IS an advantage if you know how to use it properly. Watch the cards other players get and make sure they are not cards you need. If you see that many of your outs have already been dealt to other players, there is a good chance you will lose the hand and you shouldn’t pursue a draw.
This rule can be used the opposite way as well. If you can see that none of the draw cards you need have been dealt, you can assume there is a good chance they are still in the deck. Therefore you can continue to play your draw and hope to hit the card or cards you need to win the pot.
Remember what was folded.
This is as important as watching other player’s hands. When one player mucks his cards, they are ALL turned over. Make sure you can remember what each player out of the hand was showing, it will be an advantage for you.
Early bets by other players are often good indicators on how strong of hands they were initially dealt. Like with every poker game, early betting often indicates that a player was given a strong hand to begin with. By keeping track of other player’s betting patterns, you can get a better read on how they play and put them on specific hands.
The more cards used by Seven Card Stud allows skilled players to more accurately analyze which outs are still left for them. Practice will allow you to get better at this game and win on a regular basis.
