There are a greater number of tells to reveal the strength of an opponent’s hand in circumstances where players are face to face over a poker table. Players read things into like the way a player stacks his chips, facial expressions, changes in seating position and even the way they hold their hands.

One variety of poker is Seven Card Stud Hi/Lo.  In this version, there is the possibility of a division of the pot between two of the players.  The player guaranteed a share of the pot is the one with the highest hand.  However, there is the opportunity for a second player with a qualifying low hand to take half the winnings.  A qualifying low hand requires that five cards have classifications of eight or lower.  If no player has such a hand, the player with the high hand takes the pot.

A common misconception about the game of Hold ‘Em is that is all luck. If this were true the same players wouldn’t win on a consistent basis.

There are four main categories of interest regarding strategy in this game. They are selecting good hands to play, using your seat position to your advantage, chasing the right draws, and bluffing at opportune times only.

Texas Hold’em Starting Hands

While I realize this isn’t quite Stud related, we’ll be adding more information on all kinds of games soon, so I thought to start with this one on Texas Holdem.

During a session at the Hold’em tables, one of the most important factors that separates winners from losers is the caliber of starting hands they are dealt and how they are played.  While its true that any hand could turn into a good hand after the board cards are turned, there are certain hands which are much more likely to take the pot than others.
