When learning poker for the first time, you can easily make mistakes because many things run through your mind. Sometimes your mistakes may not affect your game or your opponent’s game but other times, you’ll do yourself an injustice or anger other players. Even making mistakes, learning poker can be awesome and there are some general newbie mistakes that are made all the time.

You must practice first before you really try casino poker since casino players take the game seriously and don’t want someone at the table making obvious mistakes. Don’t lose control of your emotions
Newbies to the casino poker table can easily be detemined by veteran poker players by watching who begins to throw moodiness, who uses offensive language and even those that start to intimidate the deal or other players. You’ll be kicked out of many casinos because this kind of behavior is not tolerated at poker tables. Losing your emotions at the poker table will only make you look like a fool. 

Don’t bet out of turn 
This is a very common mistake for first time player. Bear in mind that you must wait until the player to your right acts. If you bet out of turn, you could hand over an unfair advantage to a player that did not yet act. While if you raise out of turn, a player that might had called could fold.  Or, if you decide you are going to fold you are giving an advantage to the player on your left.

Know what the bet is
Many first-time casino players don’t know what the bet is when it’s their turn. After the turn in a limit game, the stakes generally double the amount they were before the flop. You need to be alert if the bet is raised, it shows that you are a serious player.

Folding instead of checking
You can check instead of folding, if you are the first to act after a flop. If everyone else checks, you get to see the next card for free. Moreover, if everyone else checks before your turn, you must check also. You might have taken yourself out of the game although the free card might have made your hand, if you decide to fold early.

Forgetting to protect your cards
Always protect your cards. Mixing it with another player’s cards and putting them in their hand, your hand can be declared dead. Other people have a really great hand and could win the pot.

Throwing chips into the pot
Just put your bet in front of you for the dealer to see if your bet is correct. Once verified, he/she will scoop them into the pot. This is a general poker ettiquette many newbies do not know.

Throwing a winning hand into the discards
Don’t immediately throw your cards into the mess if someone happens to call out a better hand than the one that you are holding, let the card speak for themselves and let the dealer declare the winner of the hand.

Everybody makes mistakes and these are just some of the most common associated with a lack of experience but are easily correctable. The more you play, the more you observe, the more things will come naturally. Plays differ from one place to the other, so look for a few hands and learn how things are run and you’ll possibly fit right in.
