Omaha Hi-Lo Rules

Like with any other Hi Lo game, the Omaha Hi Lo game plays the same way as normal Omaha except there is a possibility of two winners at the end. Any hand can have both a high and low hand winner at the end.

The ‘High’ hand:
A high hand follows the same rules as normal Omaha. A player will use exactly two cards in their hand and three from the community to make the best five card poker hand possible.

The ‘Low’ hand: A low hand, as it may sound, consists of the lowest combination of cards that any player at the table can make.

Some rules to keep in mind when making a low hand are as follows. A low hand cannot consist of any cards higher than an eight. A low hand cannot contain two of the same valued cards, also known as a pair. A flush or a straight does not matter in the low hand game.

The best hand you can have in a low hand game is Ace, Two, Three, Four, Five. Like normal Omaha high games, a player must use exactly two cards in his hand and three from the community. If there aren’t three cards ranked eight or lower in the community, low cards cannot be made in the hand.

If no player has a low hand consisting of five different cards ranked lower or equal to an eight, then there is no low hand in the hand. This means the person who wins the high hand will take the entire pot.

Playing for both low and high hands:
A player can make, at any point in the game, two different hands to win both the low pot and the high pot. They can use the same five card combination or different ones to do this feat.

If a player wins both the high hand and the low hand in the same hand, they take the entire pot and are referred to as having swept the pot.
