Poker Strategy

There’s really no distinct strategy that’s guaranteed to work when you’re playing poker. Depending on who you’re playing with, your opponents will likely have strategies of their own, that may or may not help your cause when you try to adhere to a specific plan.  Your best bet is to become as versatile as possible, studying various strategies and adjusting to meet every situation.

Some simple tips for new card players:

• Don’t be afraid to fold.
• Keep notes on certain players. DO they bluff a lot? Do they never bluff? What’s their betting pattern?
• Once the flop is played have a good idea in your head what you’re going for. No point to stay in if you have no idea what you’re going for.
• After you’ve been at the table for while you’ll know who the strong players are, stay away from going head to head with these people.
• You want the other players to fear you. Highest hand doesn’t always win; it’s the last person with the best cards that will win.
• Don’t stay in on a hand with a small pot when another player raises the bet a lot unless you know you have the winning hand.
• Only play in games that you can afford, if you can’t afford to loose the money then you won’t be playing at your best.
• Know all the rules before playing.
